The TR1 was Yamaha's unconventional European 981 cc V-twin, built around a pressed-steel spine frame with the engine as a stressed member and chain final drive. Reviewers praised its low-down pull, handling and economy, but criticised its tyres in the wet and its styling. It is the European sibling of the US XV920R.
